printed cotton dish towel apron

moneybag wallet
one of the best reasons for selling locally made items is that we get to meet face to face with the designers and craftspeople. in fact, just today a new batch of Chakra Pennywhistle moneybag wallets and dish towels was hand delivered. it didn’t cost anyone any shipping and we got into a nice conversation about the best music to listen to while you work.

welcome to tel•e•gram, Krank Press! their hand-printed perpetual gardening calendar will tell you what is in season or what to plant every month for the happiest garden. sweet “yard fauna” linoleum print cards are great for any occasion.

NEW handmade resin bracelets, key chains and bowl and spoon sets from Resign in tucson, arizona. these colorful bowls are perfect for storing small valuables or for serving cold condiments and spices.

how to bathe in the desert:
oh i wish i wish i could carry this ‘bathboat,’ designed by Wieki Somers, in the store. it seems built especially for us dry and dusty desert dwellers. is there any more poetic way to take a bath than in an inside-out boat?

gorgeous letterpress holiday cards and 2010 calendars from satsuma press in corvallis, oregon just arrived today. what a treat!
tel•e•gram now has an Etsy shop! either click on the image above or use the link below to visit it. we don’t post everything we’ve made or carry on Etsy because the logistics of shipping some of the big, heavy pieces makes our brains hurt a little. plus, we want you to be surprised when you come visit our physical shop so we won’t give it all away online.
we will be open late this saturday (until 9:00 pm) so stop in and say hello while you’re out visiting the great gallery shows. our neighbor, Conrad Wilde, will be exhibiting furniture and lighting. and if you couldn’t make it to the reception of Josh Olivera’s work you should come by take a look while it’s still up. Josh should have just arrived in Germany and we miss him and wish him the best of luck.
below is a link to the central tucson gallery association with more information on the galleries participating this saturday.
tel•e•gram is excited to include Chakra Pennywhistle in our roster of talented designers. her work has been featured on many design blogs including Design*Sponge. we are now carrying beautiful handcrafted pillows by Chakra Pennywhistle (pictured above), raw edges studio and some made in-house. after playing our version of “balderdash” into the wee hours last weekend, i can’t help but try to define pillow for myself:
a) bed companion
b) plush work of art
c) place to lay your head
d) light blocker
e) dream threshold
i’m not sure who gets a point for this one.

we rearranged a bit for Josh’s show and are happy with the new layout. if you couldn’t make it to the reception please come see the work while it’s on display. you can see some objects in the foreground and a couple more hanging on the wall, but photographs really don’t do them justice. and especially don’t convey the delicious hard candy quality they have. we also have a few new items in the store—beautiful handmade quilts and shark tooth jewelery. we hope you’ll stop by.
thank you to those who played some chess with us in our park(ing) spot. we hope to team up with 9 queens more often and hope you’ll join us again.
“A chess game is very plastic. You construct it. It’s mechanical sculpture and with chess one creates beautiful problems and that beauty is made with the head and hands.”
~ Marcel Duchamp, interview by Truman Capote in Richard Avedon, Observations
Join tel•e•gram and 9 Queens for impromptu chess and incidental moments of beauty on Friday, September 18th starting at 10:00ish. We are taking part in park(ing) day activities and will be reserving a spot outside our store at 218 N 4th Avenue. We’ll provide the seats and sets; you bring your game.
We are excited and grateful to be presenting new and old mixed media artwork by Josh Olivera. Those who know his work may recognize a few pieces from the 6th & 6th Gallery. Josh layers wood, steel, resins, stains, mylar and shellac to form abstract and highly dimensional pieces. Please come see for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
